What to Do in Your Free Time

August 28, 2020 by Post

We get it. These days seem to be running a lot slower than usual. Thanks to the current health crisis, we all find ourselves with way too much free time on our hands. It’s all fun and games until you’re out of ideas on how to stay entertained. If you don’t know what to do with yourself anymore, here are five fun activities that will keep you busy.

Top 5 Activities to Do in Your Free Time

It might seem like not long ago everybody was singing on their balconies, and learning how to bake bread. However, all the fun projects of the first few days of quarantine already got old. Life during lockdown can get quite dull, especially after so many months. But don’t worry, there’s always something new you can try. These ideas will help you kill time while you’re stuck at home:

1. Grow Your Own Garden

If you can’t go out and enjoy nature, let it come to you. Growing a little garden at home is a very productive hobby. The extra touch of green will drastically enhance your surroundings. You can choose from a wide variety of beautiful flowers and plants to get started.

Gardening could even cut down your grocery bills. Planting your own fruits and vegetables has countless benefits. You can use them to prepare delicious and healthy dishes. This way, you’ll know your main ingredients are free of pesticides and other harmful chemicals.

If you live in a small apartment, don’t worry! You don’t need a lot of space to enjoy this fun activity. Consider container gardening and avoid taking up too much room.

2. Start a Journal

Putting your thoughts on paper is a really healthy habit. Writing all the positive (and even the negative) moments you go through in a day helps you better understand your feelings and cope with anxiety. Journaling can be especially useful in times like these.

Keeping a diary can help you work through your issues. You can even go back to what you wrote in a few months and realize the progress you’ve made since then. This form of free self-expression will help you slow down and pay attention to your emotions and needs.

Most people prefer handwritten journals. As time-consuming as it may seem, it can also be therapeutical. If you’re into hand-lettering and design, you can even add a pop of color to your pages and keep your ideas organized.

3. Blogging

If emotional work is not your thing, you can write about your interests. Put your knowledge into words, and start blogging on it. There are sites like Blogger or WordPress that allow you to create and customize your own entries without spending a single cent.

This hobby has many nice perks. It allows you to improve your writing skills and connect with a community. Once you’ve captivated an audience, you can even monetize your blog.

Use advertising and affiliate marketing to make some passive income as your public grows. If you want to take it one step further, you can even create and sell online courses on the topics you write about.

4. Make Some Art

Channel your inner artist and keep your creativity flowing. You don’t even have to break the bank to make some masterpieces. Most times, you can get started by using simple objects you already have at home.

Art is a great way to express yourself, and there are so many options you can try. The most popular are sketching, painting, paper-mache, and origami. However, the sky is the limit!

Don’t worry too much if you’re not very good at first. Remember that practice makes perfect.

5. Play Cards

Card games are a fun and easy way to unwind. Most options need several people to play, but don’t let that stop you. If you’re looking for an excellent option to play by yourself, we have two words for you: classic solitaire.

This popular game has been around for ages, and it’s a great alternative to kill time when you’re on your own. If you don’t have a deck handy, it’s all good. You can always play on your computer or your phone. Classic solitaire is so addictive you’ll easily spend hours playing without even noticing!

Keep the Fun Alive

Now you have no excuse to get bored while self-isolating. It’s a known fact that time moves faster when you’re relaxing and having fun. Keep yourself busy with these five new hobbies, and the days will fly. Some of the options we mentioned above will even help you make some extra pocket money. Maybe you can treat yourself with some take-out or an online shopping spree when you’re done!
