Adam Smith’s podcast ‘Political Party’ debuts

August 28, 2020 by Post

ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA (August 27, 2020) — Award-winning journalist Adam Smith, the former political editor of the Tampa Bay Times, has joined the St. Pete Catalyst with a weekly podcast focused on politics in Florida. Political Party features video conversations with key players, both Democrat and Republican, with the self-professed “political junkie.”

The video podcast will cover local, regional and state politics, “based on what’s happening, according to Smith. “So I think it’s a good opportunity not just to talk about campaigns or races, but issues and the things people are talking about. Very casual, very informal, and hopefully fun.”
The first episode, premiering today on stpetecatalyst.com, is with “a couple of the smartest people in politics,” Smith explained, “Democratic consultant Matthew Isbell and Republican consultant Nick Hansen. Just talking about why Pinellas is the bellweather for the presidential election. It’s the ultimate swing county.”

Pinellas County voted overwhelmingly for Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012, and for Donald Trump in 2016. “Pinellas,” said Smith, “is going to tell us who the next president is.” Smith’s podcast joins St. Petersburg Deputy Mayor Kanika Tomalin’s Just Getting Started, author and journalist Craig Pittman’s Welcome to Florida and the SPx business podcast, hosted by Catalyst publisher Joe Hamilton.
