Tampa, Fla. (August 19, 2020) – Since March, 39,600 jobs have been lost in Hillsborough County due to COVID-19. Make It Tampa Bay, Hillsborough County’s talent attraction initiative, wants to help local displaced workers find new opportunities. It has launched a revamped job board that compiles all open positions in Hillsborough County with new filters to search by job title, company name, job category, and certification.
The job board also features dedicated web pages to view real-time job postings of occupations within high demand industries such as technology, healthcare, manufacturing, and distribution and logistics. These new features and web pages can help job seekers narrow down their search or find opportunities for a new career path.
“The hospitality and tourism industry is critical to Hillsborough County’s economic recovery, generating nearly $7 billion and supporting more than 54,000 jobs in 2019,” said Santiago C. Corrada, president and CEO of Visit Tampa Bay. “Unfortunately, the pandemic has displaced many of our colleagues and our hope is that this new job board helps these hard-working individuals find new career opportunities where they can transfer their valuable experience and skills.”
Madden Media built out the new updates while the job board is powered by JobsEQ, a Software as a Service tool that provides labor market data. JobsEQ pulls all the open job postings in Hillsborough County in real time by SOC code, the federal system used by the Bureau of Labor Statistics to classify different occupations. Since the original Make It Tampa Bay job board was launched in February 2019, more than 13,000 searches have been conducted, with job seekers from New York and New Jersey leading the way.
“While Make It Tampa Bay was created as a way to attract talent from other markets during times of record employment, we realize during our current situation, many of our local residents have been negatively impacted,” said Craig Richard, president and CEO, Tampa Bay Economic Development Council. “We want to get the word out locally that we have exciting industries here that are growing and connect local job seekers with companies that are actively hiring. It’s a win-win for everyone.”
In addition to these job board updates; the Tampa Bay EDC and Make It Tampa Bay have been highlighting “Hot Jobs of the Day” twice daily on their respective social media channels. These promotions showcase timely job postings from different employers.
Launched in 2017, Make It Tampa Bay is a joint effort of Hillsborough County, the Tampa Bay EDC, and Visit Tampa Bay to attract more talent and business relocations to Hillsborough County.
