Frankie Raye Releases New Single, “Theodora”

August 13, 2020 by Post

TAMPA, FLORIDA — “Theodora” is the new single from singer, songwriter, guitar player Frankie Raye. The song is available on all major streaming platforms and online digital retailers effective immediately. The song was inspired by the Empress who was married to Emperor Justinian during the height of the Byzantine Empire (sixth century).

“The song was written during a stream of consciousness writing session,” she explained. “One day, after a show, a gentleman was saying very inappropriate things to me – catcalling, calling me names, yelling at me to come over to him. I politely ignored him, and then he got very upset. I started thinking, ‘What do I owe you? Why do you have a right to be upset simply because I am not answering your catcalls? I have no obligation to come over to you. What have I done wrong to make you angry?’ There’s this weird thing where people get offended when you don’t cater to their ego, and unfortunately, when you’re a woman, that offense can become dangerous; you can be followed to your car, you could be assaulted, et cetera. I started thinking of strong women in history, and Theodora came to mind because no one really talks much about her. She was respected as an Empress, and I’ve always had a complex about not being respected enough, being looked down upon, or not being taken seriously. Theodora is everything I want to be.”

The song was recorded in the greater Tampa Bay area and comes on the heels of last year’s successful album titled, “Brave.”

Frankie Raye added that she’s pleased to get this new song out after the music industry was handcuffed during the pandemic. “The year had started so wonderfully for me, with getting invited to perform at the Winter NAMM Show in Anaheim in late January and also getting to perform at the House of Blues while I was out there. It was such a disappointment to see everything grind to a halt when the Coronavirus took over and shut everything down. I’m glad to be cresting back upwards with the release of ‘Theodora’.”
