WHERE: Hillel Academy, 2020 West Fletcher Ave., Tampa, FL 33612
DETAILS: There’s no place like Hillel Academy, so it’s fitting that when the school opens to students on Wednesday, it will be decked out in “The Wizard of Oz” style. Students will enter under a rainbow balloon arch, staff and teachers will be dressed in character (donning masks) and students will follow the yellow brick road to their classrooms. Head of School Allison Oakes will dress as the Wizard, welcoming students to the new school year.
Hillel Academy leadership has been busy over the last five months, diligently planning for this day, to ensure the safety of all students and staff. A COVID 19 playbook – https://bit.ly/HillelPlaybook– has been created to detail the new rules, such as staff and students wearing masks, washing hands and following social distance rules.
To remind students, signs adorned by the Tin Man will be posted by hand sanitizer stations to say, “Spread Chesed (kindness), Not Germs.” And Dorothy’s ruby red slippers will be at each Enter/Exit sign to remind students and adults to sanitize and wear their masks.
Hillel Academy, Tampa Bay area’s only accredited Jewish school, embraces the diversity, rich culture and traditions of Judaism, and is a member of the Jewish Community Day School Network and the National Association of Independent Schools. The school is accredited by the Florida Council of Independent Schools and the Florida Kindergarten Council.
