New NeuroSpa TMS Therapy Center Opens in Wesley Chapel, Fla.

July 30, 2020 by Post

NeuroSpa TMS Medical Director W. Nate Upshaw, M.D.

WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla., July 29, 2020 — NeuroSpa TMS announces the opening of its newest location, the Wesley Chapel NeuroSpa TMS Therapy Center, at 2306 Ashley Oaks Circle, Suite 101. The center offers transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), a highly effective, non-medication, non-invasive, outpatient treatment for depression and related anxiety, in a spa-like atmosphere. It’s open Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Free consultations to learn more about TMS may be scheduled by visiting the website or calling the office.

“The pandemic is triggering depression and anxiety in people for whom it has never been a problem and it’s exacerbating symptoms in people who were struggling with these feelings before COVID concerns began,” said Dr. W. Nate Upshaw, medical director of NeuroSpa TMS. “We’re excited to bring a new option for mental health to Wesley Chapel and help people feel better again,”

Upshaw is a board-certified psychiatrist, a leading authority on TMS and an advocate for mental health therapy accessibility. He has helped people suffering from depression get their lives back with TMS therapy since 2010.

Magnetic Stimulation Therapy Instead of Medication
NeuroSpa TMS Therapy Centers treat depression with transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), using non-invasive, gentle magnetic pulses instead of medication. TMS is FDA cleared and covered by all major insurances, including Medicare and TRICARE.

Rate of Response
Clinical studies show that two-thirds of people suffering from depression improve with TMS, but NeuroSpa TMS has an even higher rate of response—75 percent of patients see significant symptom improvement and 55 percent experience complete remission. In addition to treating depression, TMS therapy also relieves associated symptoms of anxiety and insomnia.

Prevalence of Depression
“When you’re struggling with depression, you may feel alone, but you’re not. On any given day, seven to 10 percent of the population is suffering from major depressive disorder,” said Upshaw.

“Depression is a common condition and fortunately it’s treatable. We help people feel better every day, and we’re excited to provide this life-changing, FDA-cleared treatment that can help people struggling with depression get their life back.”

Symptoms of Depression
According to Upshaw, the odds a person will suffer from depression at some point in their life are one in five. Depression causes loss of pleasure and feelings of hopelessness. It can cause irritability, loss of motivation, changes in weight or appetite, trouble falling asleep, difficulty staying asleep or a tendency to sleep too much. It can be debilitating and can even lead to suicide. Everyone experiences changes in their mood, but when symptoms of depression become present daily, the mood disorder is considered a clinical problem.

Clinical Trials and Guidelines
“Clinical trials and Clinical TMS Society guidelines support TMS therapy after one depression medication failure,” said Upshaw. “TMS is now a mainstream treatment for depression, but many people still aren’t familiar with it or don’t understand how it works.”

How TMS Works
TMS uses gentle, non-invasive magnetic pulses to stimulate nerve cells in the left prefrontal cortex, the area of the brain responsible for mood regulation. The pulses stimulate the neurotransmitters of the brain to restore healthy function. Some patients experience minor scalp discomfort or a mild headache after their first treatment, but most people report no pain or discomfort with TMS. Patients can return to work or typical activities immediately following therapy. TMS has none of the side effects of medication. A TMS treatment takes 20 minutes, and a typical treatment plan includes six to eight weeks of TMS therapy.

The NeuroSpa TMS Difference
NeuroSpa TMS Therapy Centers offer a peaceful, welcoming, spa-like environment. Interested individuals may schedule a tour to learn more about the therapy center.

No Systemic Side Effects
With depression medications, patients often experience unwanted side effects, including cognitive impairment, nausea, fatigue, weight gain and sexual dysfunction, but with TMS, patients experience no systemic side effects.

Free Consultation
NeuroSpa TMS offers free consultations to anyone interested in learning more about TMS and determining if it’s the right treatment for them.

COVID-19 Safety Protocols
“All of our therapy centers adhere to safety protocols that make it possible for patients to move forward with improving their mental health while protecting their physical health,” said Upshaw.

“Our safety protocols are outlined on our website so that our patients feel comfortable and know exactly what to expect.”
