HOPE: Honoring Our Patriots Everywhere

[KISSIMMEE, FL (JULY 24, 2020)] — The North Florida PGA has announced the renaming of its PGA HOPE Tampa Bay Chapter to honor the memory of 2018 National Patriot Award recipient, Ken Juhn. The Chapter will now be known as the Ken Juhn Tampa Bay PGA HOPE Chapter. Juhn, a PGA Member for 33 years, personified patriotism through the game of golf
and demonstrated unwavering commitment and dedication to the men and women who valiantly served and protected the United States. On July 10th, 2019, Juhn passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. The North Florida PGA is proud to continue our fallen Member’s legacy of service and support to those Veterans who put their lives on the line for our country.

Taking over as Volunteer Chapter Coordinator is Tampa Bay Sports Authority Vice President, Kennie Sims, PGA. “I am extremely honored to follow the legacy of Ken Juhn by leading the Ken Juhn Tampa Bay PGA HOPE Chapter,” states Sims. “Ken was a great PGA Professional, a dear friend, and a true American hero. His tireless work with the disabled veterans of Tampa Bay has not ended with his untimely passing, as his relentless spirit lives through others. His legacy will not be forgotten.”

A 1-hour special on CBS Television network, “PGA HOPE: Helping Our Patriots Everywhere,” will air on Saturday, July 25, at 1:30 p.m. ET. The program will highlight the Military Veterans and PGA Professionals involved with PGA HOPE and includes a special about the NFPGA’s
Ken Juhn Tampa Bay PGA HOPE Chapter.

ABOUT PGA HOPE
The Section’s Military pillar, PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere), is the flagship Veterans program of PGA REACH, the charitable foundation of the PGA of America. PGA HOPE introduces golf to Veterans with disabilities to enhance their physical, mental, social and emotional well-being. The program introduces the game of golf through a developmental 6-8 week curriculum, taught by PGA Professionals trained in adaptive golf
and military cultural competency. All programs are funded by PGA REACH and supplemented by the NFPGA Foundation leaving the cost of programming free for all Veterans.

The North Florida PGA and participating PGA Professionals work together with local VA Hospitals and military installations to implement this program. Veterans that are referred to the PGA HOPE program attend a one-day introductory golf experience, after which they can participate in a six- to eight-week program, taught by trained PGA Professionals. After completion of the program, they receive a graduation card, offering them a range of golf-related benefits in their region. All North Florida PGA Members are encouraged to start a PGA HOPE Chapter or get involved with a program in their area. To get involved, contact the NFPGA Section Office.
