Leading in the New Normal: Free Program for Management in the COVID-19 World

TAMPA – The TECO Energy Center for Leadership at the Sykes College of Business is offering a free online program titled “Leading in the New Normal” from July 22 to Sept. 2 that’s designed to help practicing managers focus on real opportunities and threats to their organizations. 

            “Leading in the New Normal’ is a part of our new Learn and Lead series, and is an opportunity for the Sykes College of Business to provide insight to our community during this challenging time,” said Frank Ghannadian, dean of Sykes College of Business. “As our world changes due to the global pandemic, we want to do our part to help local businesses and leaders navigate through the changing business environment and succeed as leaders for the future.”

The Leading in the New Normal program will be facilitated by leading business faculty and professionals. Sessions will occur on select Wednesday afternoons, with the first being on July 22 from noon-1 p.m. 

In the first session, Bella Galperin, senior associate director of the TECO Energy Center for Leadership and professor of management, and Stephanie Thomason, associate director of the TECO Energy Center for Leadership and professor of management, will facilitate the session titled “Leading from a Distance.” This session will focus on maintaining company culture and communication lines during the global pandemic, and how participants can guide their organization through hectic times. 

Each session will focus on a different aspect of crisis management, how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected businesses and the economy, and what can be done going forward. The rest of the full schedule is below.

  • July 29: Lessons from 2020: What Employees Need for Engagement and Psychological Safety During Times of Disruption with facilitator Gena Cox, strategy and executive consulting, IBM Talent Management Solutions
  • Aug. 5: Resilient Leadership with facilitator Deirdre Dixon, associate director of the TECO Energy Center for Leadership and assistant professor of management
  • Aug. 12: Coaching Tools for Leaders with facilitator Rod Buchen, CEO and senior executive coach of The Buchen Group
  • Aug. 19: Best Practices for Marketing During and After COVID-19 with facilitators Stacey Schetzsle, director of the Institute for Sales Excellence and associate professor of marketing, and Gary Beemer, instructor of marketing 
  • Aug. 26: Financial Performance and Risk in the COVID-19 Period: A Sector by Sector Analysis with facilitators Lonnie Bryant, chair of the finance department and professor of finance, and Scott Miller, associate professor of finance 
  • Sept. 2: The Future of the World Economy: The Economic Impact in a Post-Lockdown World with facilitator Vivekanand Jayakumar, associate professor of economics

Each session will be held online via Zoom, and requires a separate registration. Participants can register here.
