Learning Independence for Tomorrow Holds Socially Distanced Graduation Ceremony for Students with Neurodiversities

June 4, 2020 by Post

SEMINOLE, Fla. (June 4, 2020) — Learning Independence for Tomorrow (LiFT) will celebrate a commencement ceremony on June 6, 2020 for LiFT Academy high school and LiFT University Transition Program graduates. The ceremony will take place from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at First Christian Church of Seminole and will follow the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s guidelines related to COVID-19.

LiFT will honor 10 high school graduates from LiFT Academy and two young-adult graduates from LiFT University Transition Program. LiFT Staff will ensure social distancing and prevention guidelines will be in place, including assigned seating with six-feet distance between each attendee, face masks for both participants and guests, and thorough sanitization.

“We are thrilled to be able to acknowledge and celebrate the hard work and determination of all our graduates in reaching this important milestone,” said LiFT Academy Principal, Holly Andrade. “We have given these students the individual support and accommodations they needed to thrive and excel. We have watched them embrace their challenges – fully confident in who they are and in their ability to contribute to society in a meaningful way. They are forever a part of the LiFT family and we are so proud of each and every one of them!”

Along with LiFT Academy, LiFT University Transition Program will celebrate its program graduates as well. These young adults have been focusing on independent living, academics, career readiness, and increased social skills and awareness. They have learned to provide for their own needs, to budget their time and money, and have completed four years of vocational training and internships.
“LiFT University is a game-changer for young adults and their families,” said Program Director, Lois Mays. “Our mission is to develop young adults with neurodiversities into responsible, self-sufficient, community contributors, able to live life to the fullest.”

First Christian Church of Seminole is located at 11125 Park Blvd, Seminole, FL 33776.

About Learning Independence for Tomorrow

LiFT is the vision of passionate mothers who wanted an educational program that focused on independent outcomes for their own children with neurodiversities. In 2012, Kim Kuruzovich and Keli Mondello had a vision. Inspired by their daughters, they set out to create an inclusive and accepting environment where children would be free from bullying so they would have the peace to learn and grow. Today LiFT boasts an enrollment of 130(+) students and three educational programs. LiFT Academy serves Kindergarten through 12th grade; LiFT University Transition Program, is a four-year post-secondary transition program for students who have completed high school, but desire continued academics, career readiness, and intensive life skill training. LiFT Adult Day program offers continued learning and employment skills while promoting social enterprise.

As a recognized leader in the landscape of special and inclusive education, LiFT is committed to providing exceptional and equal opportunities in education, employment and life experiences for ALL!
