Top tips for planning a post-lockdown trip to Tampa

May 27, 2020 by Post

Just like the rest of the US, Tampa has been significantly affected by the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. This has been a real shame as there is so much for visitors to do here. From using a Funzpoints bonus code to play social casino games in their hotel room to enjoying the fabulous food, gorgeous weather, and warm welcome that the locals offer.

Current Florida state laws have seen Gov. DeSantis move into Phase 1 of the ‘Plan for Florida’s Recovery,’ but people are still advised to stay at home unless travel is essential. COVID-19 measures have also adversely impacted tourism in the State and around Tampa in particular.

The good news for those who were planning a trip to see Tampa is that this will be possible soon when lockdown has been lifted to allow it. To get the most from this wonderful city, though, you need to plan first. But what are the best pieces of advice for a break in Tampa?

Fit in a visit to Busch Gardens

When the lockdown is lifted, and Tampa’s many fabulous attractions are open once more, a visit to Busch Gardens is a great tip. If you go home without fitting this in, you will be sure to regret it. It is a massive place, though, so be ready to set aside a whole day to get around the 335-acre site. It boasts a fun African theme and has not only some beautiful animals to see but also some fun rides to check out. As the name suggests, there are also some great plants and flowers.

Get ready to hit the beach

The whole Tampa Bay area, including St Petersburg and Clearwater, has some of the best beaches in the USA – Tampa is no exception. The sunny weather, soft white sand, and crystal-clear water are just perfect for relaxing or enjoying water sports. Snorkeling is particularly good off Tampa’s beaches as you will see some remarkable marine life under the ocean waves. Just remember to pack a hat and sun cream for your time chilling out on the beach – it gets pretty hot, especially in summer. From the Davis Islands Beach to the Ben T Davis beach, you will not be short of choice.

Think about hiring a car

To see all that Tampa and surrounding areas like Clearwater have to offer, renting a car is the right call. It not only saves you having to walk for miles in the hot sun to get between places, but it will also help you fit more into your break. From even more beautiful beaches in St Pete or the arts scene in Sarasota, hiring a car is ideal for getting the most from your visit. Even better, the rates for renting a car in Tampa are pretty reasonable, so it will not cost you lots of money for the convenience.

Consider buying passes

We have already mentioned a visit to Busch Gardens being a must, but there are plenty of other attractions you might want to see, such as the Florida Aquarium. As you would expect, the cost can soon stack up after a while when you have paid the full entry price for all your group. To make the visit more affordable, it is wise to think about buying passes which give you discounted entry on popular attractions. One of the most popular is the Tampa City pass, which provides cheaper entry on the biggest tourist hotspots in the city.

Know the right time to visit

Like all other tourist destinations, Tampa has distinct seasons to be aware of. You can, of course, visit all-year-round but you may want to tailor your arrival to a season which you find most suitable. January to May is the regular tourist season and is when most will head to the city. June to November is Hurricane season, and this is worth bearing in mind if booking during these months. November to December is the Holiday season when lots of people come to Tampa to celebrate Christmas. Being aware of these details means you will have your perfect holiday when you come to Tampa after lockdown.

Plan your post-lockdown trip to Tampa now

While Tampa is not yet open as usual to tourists, you could still begin researching your trip to the city now, so you are ready to go when the lockdown is over. Top of the list is getting a few tips on what to look out for and what to do when you do finally arrive. As the above shows, this is a city with lots to offer and which will leave you with some great memories.
