“We feel it is important for maintaining relationships within our membership and boosting club morale to give our members a virtual club experience,” explains John Currier, Kiwanis Club of Tampa President. “We are using the format of our traditional in-person club meetings with the ringing of the Kiwanis bell, Pledge of Allegiance, a prayer lead by one of our members followed by committee reports and club news. Then we have a guest speaker for fifteen minutes plus five minutes of Q&A. The entire virtual meeting lasts about 45 minutes.”
The Kiwanis Club of Tampa is celebrating over 100 years of helping children in the local community. To assist during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Tampa Kiwanis Foundation recently donated $5,000 to Feeding Tampa Bay and $5,000 to Metropolitan Ministries. “This is perfect timing for our Tampa Kiwanis Foundation to help the Tampa community,” said Tom Gordin, Tampa Kiwanis Foundation President.
Kiwanians also roll up their sleeves and volunteer their time to build ramps for the disabled, hold immunization events, purchase holiday gifts for kids in need, provide scholarships, work with leadership clubs in schools at the middle school, high school and college level, and build reading rooms in Boys and Girls Clubs around Tampa. The club hosts an annual Incredible Duck Race and Kiwanis BBQ to raise funds for these projects.
