Mark Healy, Executive Vice President of Michael Moecker & Associates, Inc., with offices in Tampa, has been appointed by Judge Ronald Flury, Circuit Court of the 2nd Judicial Circuit, at the request of the Office of the Attorney General, as Receiver for the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Inc. (Coalition), a Florida non for profit organization that distributes more than $50 million annually to domestic violence centers around the state. In doing so, Circuit Court Judge Ron Flury agreed to the request by Attorney General Ashley Moody to dissolve the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
“This appointment is critical to maintaining the stability of the 42 domestic violence centers located throughout the state of Florida,” said Mark Healy. Healy of Michael Moecker & Associates, Inc. was appointed because of the firm’s longstanding track record and expertise operating companies. In December of 2016, the firm operated and sold the non-profit organization Switchboard of Miami, a suicide hotline center that provided critical services to the community.
As the court-appointed Receiver, Healy’s tasks are to assume full control of the assets of the entity, orchestrate the continuity of operations into a new entity, regain its operational status, investigate and, if necessary, sue to collect any outstanding assets. The appointment comes after Governor Ron DeSantis and Florida legislators began investigations into the Coalition’s executives for alleged abuse of state dollars, lack of transparency and breach of public trust.
According to the Coalition’s website, in 2018, 104,914 crimes of domestic violence were reported to Florida law enforcement agencies resulting in 64,573 arrests.
