| March 4, 2020 [St. Petersburg, FL] — The Florida Holocaust Museum’s Generations After – A Group for Children and Adult Grandchildren of Holocaust Survivors and Holocaust Refugees is pleased to present a free community book talk Witness For My Father, with author Barbara Bergren, on Sunday, March 15, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Museum. Barbara Bergren is a author, lecturer, and Holocaust educator who visits schools, religious organizations, and community groups speaking about her father’s experience during and after World War II. Witness For My Father is the story of how an African-American troop broke the rules and nurtured her father to health after his liberation from Dachau. Bergren’s father, Martin Weigen was eleven when the Nazis invaded his hometown of Starachowice, Poland. He survived the death march from Auschwitz, imprisonment at Buchenwald, and the deaths of his family before his liberation at Dachau and the decision that changed the course of his life. He never spoke of it. Fifty years later, a surprise telephone call opened the door to Martin’s past, sparking a series of events that reignited memories of courage, fear, impossible changes, harrowing escapes, and the unexpected friendship between a young Holocaust survivor and an African-American lieutenant. The new release Witness for My Father will be available for purchase and signing by Bergren. This program is free to attend and all are welcome.
