Ana G. Méndez University Expands its Instructional Model with Nursing Program Taught Fully in English, Launches English Learning Program for Non-Native Speakers
TAMPA, Fla. – Focused on offering more educational options to contribute to the progress of Hispanics in Florida, Ana G. Méndez University continues to grow and transform. The school marked the beginning of the new year by expanding its nursing program and adding courses to learn English for non-native speakers. For more information, call (800) 919-1099.
The new offerings are part of the sustained growth of UAGM which last year added two new master’s in human resources and Project Management in its School of Business and Entrepreneurship.
“As the premiere university of Hispanics in Florida, we take great pride in offering more and better educational options so that our community may forge a successful and innovative future,” said Suheily, Martínez, Director of the Tampa Bay campus.
The new nursing program is fully taught in English for the benefit of people who prefer to study in English, as it is often common with second and third generation Hispanics. UAGM also offers a bilingual BA and a master’s in nursing, with classes taught in English and Spanish. According to the Florida Center for Nursing, a nonprofit advocacy group, there are currently 12,000 vacant nursing positions in the state. At the same rate, 40% of these professionals are approaching retirement age, which combined with a growing elderly population makes for a continuous demand in the marketplace for healthcare professionals.
“The demand for nursing professionals is one that we must address because it has a real and imminent impact on the health of our community,” Martínez said. “The nursing program fully taught in English opens the doors of our institution to people who don’t speak Spanish, or who prefer to study in English, and broadens the opportunities for professional development that our school offers.”
Students of the nursing program in the Orlando and South Florida campuses will have access to an Anatomage Table, and advanced 3D anatomy system being adopted by many of the U.S.’ medical schools. Users can visualize anatomy exactly as they would on a fresh cadaver. Individual structures are reconstructed in accurate 3D, resulting in an unprecedented level of real accurate anatomy, dissectible in 3D. The Table allows for exploration and learning of human anatomy beyond what any cadaver could offer.
Conversely, and responding to requests that it receives almost daily, the university also launched a program to teach English to non-native speakers. Each student will be individually assessed to identify his or her language fluency level and will be placed in the corresponding course level. The program offers four different course levels, ranging from basic to more advanced, covering oral and written communication.
AGMU’s curriculums are accelerated, enabling students to complete their education and graduate quicker.
