St Petersburg — 9 local bands and musicians come together this week, for a night of rocking good fun to benefit the Craftsman House Gallery. This event, called “Raise The Roof FUNraiser” will be held on Wednesday, February 19th at the St Pete Sidelot at 2133 2nd Ave South in St Petersburg from 6-10. Suggested minimum donation is $5.
Bands include:
Gracie Grieshop (Sunset Bridge Band)
Matt Weis (of Boxcar Hollow and Antelope)
Sanderling (Reina Collins, Kristen Holloway, & Bart Hanchey)
Natty Moss Bond and Steve Peake
The Rebekah Pulley Twosome
Steve Connelly
Emily Turnage
Rich Whiteley (of Uncle Johns Band & Rich Whiteley Band)
The Petty Experience (Featuring the songs of Tom Petty)
These musicians are donating their talents and the Side Lot is donating the event space to help raise money for a new roof on the Craftsman House Gallery. Both the main house and the carriage house of the historic 1918 Craftsman House at 2955 Central Avenue are in dire need of a new roof.
Craftsman House owner Jeff Schorr has hosted, sponsored, and assisted artists and musicians for years – and now these musicians are returning the favor. Over the past two decades Schorr has been an active supporter of our community — serving on boards for the Grand Central District, Preserve the Burg, Movies in the Park, Keep St Pete Special, The Jack Kerouac House of St. Petersburg, St. Petersburg’s Arts Steering Committee, Second Saturday ArtWalk Steering Committee, Downtown Arts Association, Central Avenue Council, a founding member of the Warehouse Arts District Association,…
Schorr has received a $30,000 CRA grant from the city of St. Petersburg. The roof alone is $30,000. With 175 rafters and a large amount of decking, the woodwork was projected to be an additional $30,000. As work went on and an excessive amount of rotted wood was uncovered along with unpermitted work by previous owners, the price started going up. As the roofers worked towards the front of the house and the front porch, they got to the longer beams. Pine trees are not grown that large in Florida so they have to use fir (a much more expensive wood) for those longer beams. Currently the roofers have estimated the project to be $90,000. Schorr has put a lot of his own money in, however with the increased cost he needs our help to preserve the original model home for the historic Kenwood neighborhood.
Come out and support this cause and have a great time doing it!
