Adolfo Mendonca is a Brazilian pianist currently living in the United States. His performances feature Brazilian music and several genres of jazz, from bebop to modern jazz fusion. On February 14th (Friday), starting at 12:30pm, he will perform at the Hillsborough Community College Ybor City Campus. The set list will consist of Brazilian music and he will be available for discussing aesthetics of Brazilian music and its relation with American music, especially jazz.
Adolfo has performed in great venues such Blue Note Sao Paulo, Mexico City, Jazz à Vienne 2019” (France), “St. Petersburg Jazz Festival 2019” (USA), “Santos Jazz Festival 2018 e 2019” (Brazil) and several festivals in Brazil. His focus is on promoting Brazilian music in the United States: “This concert is part of a series of performances in Brazil, Mexico and the United States. I want to do intercultural performances, playing and promoting international music. In the Blue Note, in Brazil, I’ve promoted and played the evolution of jazz. Now, in the United States, we will promote, perform and demonstrate the evolution of Brazilian music.”
As an educator, he held a full-time position at City Conservatory of Guarulhos, Brazil, and has taught masterclasses in the most important Brazilian music college programs in Brazil, such as Souza Lima Berklee, Unesp, Emesp and several others. In the United States, he is finishing his master’s degree in Jazz Studies at the University of South Florida and also had additional educational experiences in New York and with noted Florida jazz musicians Lynne Arriale, Chris Rottmayer, Per Danielsson, Martin Bejerano, Mark Taylor and Chuck Owen.
In 2020, his schedule includes performances in Sao Paulo (Blue Note), Guarulhos, Universidade Federal de Campinas, Pizza Jazz Café in Mexico City, Orlando, St. Petersburg, University of Wisconsin in Madison, Hillsborough Community College, St Petersburg College and a performance at the St Pete Jazz Festival 2020, joining Grammy award winner Jose Valentino Ruiz.
