(New Port Richey, FL) January 9, 2020 – The Coalition for the Homeless of Pasco County is in need of many volunteers for the Point In Time (PIT) Count of homeless in Pasco County on January 28, 2020. The PIT Count is required of Continuum of Care (CoC) organizations to count the number of people experiencing homelessness in their geographic area. The Count provides crucial data on progress towards federal goals of preventing and ending homelessness and ability to get money into the county.
“The PIT Count is a huge project for the Coalition and our ability to bring monies into the County, from HUD, DCF, and other funders, to address homelessness in Pasco County is directly dependent upon a thorough and complete count of sheltered and unsheltered homeless individuals and families. And, fundamental to a successful and thorough count is having enough volunteers to canvas the entire County,” said Don Anderson, CEO of the Coalition for the Homeless of Pasco County.
The Coalition is needing 400+ volunteers throughout Pasco County. Volunteers can sign up for one of three, four-hour shifts; 7 am – 11 am, 11 am – 3 pm; and 3 pm – 7 pm. Volunteer opportunities available for both in the field and assisting surveyors. Volunteers can sign up online at www.pascohomelesscoalition.org/pit2020/
The Coalition for the Homeless of Pasco County was established in 1988. For more than 30 years the Coalition has invited agencies, businesses, and citizens to help support efforts to relieve the suffering of Pasco County’s homeless families and individuals. Our goal is to build a safe community full of hope, opportunities for self-sufficiency, and permanent housing for families and individuals.
