About the January 9 film: While “bathroom bills” began sweeping across the nation, The Human Rights Campaign called 2016 the most dangerous year ever for transgender Americans. This film captures the ensuing civil rights battle from the perspective of a group of embattled parents fighting to protect their children from discriminatory laws in their home state. The heart of the film lies in the stories of the families who accept and support their kids for exactly who they are. “A compelling documentary showing that transgender rights matter.” (Rotten Tomatoes) (Not Rated)
Save the date, Thursday February 13, for the next film in the series. It is said that “Good Kenyan girls become good Kenyan wives.” Kena and Ziki want something more. The girls remain close friends while resisting the political rivalry between their families. They support each other to pursue dreams in a conservative society. When love blossoms between them, the two girls will be forced to choose between happiness and safety “A lyrical ode to finding a kindred spirit amidst an uncaring majority.”(RogerEbert.com) (Not Rated)
Watch for announcements of other films as they are added to the series on the second Thursday of each month.
