Tampa Native to Command Navy’s Logistics Support Detachment A

December 3, 2019 by Post

Tampa, FL. — Commander William “Billy” Duffy will assume command of the Navy’s Logistics Readiness Support DET A in a formal ceremony to be held at Coronado, CA on December 15.

CDR Duffy, a Memphis native and a 1998 graduate of the University of Memphis, transitioned to the Naval Reserve in 2005 and has since completed three Reserve tours: NATO Bravo in Atlanta, GA; PACOM DET 401 in Bremerton, WA; and Navy Expeditionary Combat Command Augment in Norfolk, VA.

Upon transitioning the Naval Reserve, CDR Duffy took on the role of C4ISR Integrated Logistics Director for Rockwell Collins. CDR Duffy is currently a Senior Program Manager at NexTech Solutions’ Mission Support Center Pinewood in Tampa, FL.

CDR Duffy will remain in Tampa and continue in his current role at NexTech while commuting to California to fulfill his newly acquired duties.

For that, his co-workers are thankful. NexTech’s EVP of Mission Support, Kris Nagy, had this to say about Billy. “Billy’s accomplishments speak for themselves. He’s a tremendous leader, and we’re very excited for him to have this opportunity. We know he will be very successful in this new role.”

CDR Duffy served at Fleet Industrial Supply Center Yokosuka, Japan from January to July 2009 as the Future Operations Division Chief. After returning to the US, he attended Georgia State University, receiving an MBA in 2011.

He was twice mobilized to USCENTCOM from July 2014–September 2016 as the Logistics Operations Manager for Operation INHERENT RESOLVE and as the Syria and Iraq Train and Equip Manager within the J5. He was “By Name Requested” to serve on active duty as the Branch Chief for Operation GALLANT PHOENIX at USSOCOM in Tampa, FL from October 2016 to September 2019.

CDR Duffy served in over 20 different countries for brief periods of time over the course of his 21-year career. Some of these countries include Iraq, Afghanistan, Jordan, Kuwait, Japan, and Cuba. His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service medal (2 awards), Joint Service Commendation and Navy Commendation medal, along with numerous Achievement medals.

He is blessed to be married to his beautiful wife Stacey and has three children: Brad (11), Hana (4) and Shea (2).
