November 4, 2019 (Sarasota, FL) –Can laughter be the best medicine for people with Parkinson’s?
“Yes,” says Tanya Gold, MD. “Therapeutic laughter, or deliberate laughter, belongs in the medical toolbox of a person diagnosed with Parkinson’s.”
According to Dr. Gold, a Family Physician and Laughter Yoga Leader, published studies document that laughter can reduce stress, strengthen our immune system and give us more energy. For a person living with Parkinson’s, laughter can do even more by helping with vocalization as well as improved coordination and movement.
“I can personally attest to the benefits of deliberately laughing as I have a father with Parkinson’s; he is able to smile more, has improved agility and is more motivated to exercise and live life to its fullest,” said Gold.
Also joining Dr. Gold will be Dr. Deborah Boland, DO, Neurologist and Movement Disorder Specialist. Recognized by members of the Parkinson’s community as being passionate about improving every patient’s quality of life, Dr. Boland will be speaking on “Alternative Therapies for Parkinson’s Disease.”
Dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with Parkinson’s and their caregivers, Neuro Challenge Foundation for Parkinson’s created the Distinguished Speaker Series to provide expert information on topics of interest to people with Parkinson’s within and outside of their service area. Parkinson’s is the progressive, neuro-degenerative disease with no known cure.
The event is free and open to members of the Parkinson’s community, healthcare professionals, and the public.
