Harvey/Harveyphotos.co is thrilled and honored to have been invited to contribute to this prestigious event. The rare art-form I practice, (invented?), shooting “guerrilla style” public nudes, gives me the opportunity present some of the worlds most famous landmarks in a way that makes the observer smile, and at the same time point out the general oblivion we all exists in. I am best known for my black and white public nudes, I have shot thousands of them, but my “other” newly invented art-form is, as of yet unnamed, this years event will allow me to debut it on a world stage.
The creative energy in St Petersburg is exactly like one of the legendary lightning storms the area is known for. I have evolved more as an artist in the 5 years I have been visiting (and now living in) St Pete, than the previous 21 years of my career. When I shot my first image on April 2nd 1994, I could feel the power of what we were doing, my life changed instantly. I still get an adrenaline rush every time I shoot. “When you are out of your comfort-zone, you are in the zone” I was once told by a woman who said she was posing nude in public, “for her health”, it has been my fountain of youth. After my visit to the Dali I went into a creative whirlwind, I started doing Warhol style versions of my images, I am experiencing a new excitement to revisit hundreds of images.
Members may also pursue the many new products in the Museum Store and receive a 25% discount during The Dali Dozen. Tickets to the event are $18 and are available to Dali Museum members & their guests on TheDali.org.
About Harvey/Harveyphotos.co
Harvey created his first 7 images on April 2, 1994 at 5:30 PM, in Ann Arbor Michigan. A professional model and photographer rented his loft as one of several locations to hold Nude workshops in the area. With a borrowed camera and 1 roll of film (the first roll of film he ever shot), a flash of inspiration came to him while looking down from his second story window and noticing a large group of people waiting to cross the street. “I have a great idea!” he shouted to the group of 20 workshop attendees, “see that group of people? Wouldn’t it be funny if the last 3 people in the group were nude! No one will even notice, if we do it fast!”, “that is a great idea” one person said.
Harvey has shot over 3000 locations in 36 cities and worked with thousands of volunteers. The actual execution of a “Harvey photo” has developed into a science. At a mandatory training session, volunteers learn to, drop pose and redress, in 10 seconds or less, twice in a row. Security/get-a-way drivers are also trained, and a special set of hand signals are used to communicate. Historic landmarks, and popular (cool) businesses, are the life blood of every city, some have become “world famous” over time, Harvey specializes in shooting “very” public locations. About The Zodiac Committee
The Zodiac Membership Committee is an all-volunteer group that supports the mission of The Dali Museum by building meaningful relationships with members, fostering new interest in the membership program, and helping to strengthen ties between the Museum, its members and the arts community. The original Zodiac Group was created in France in 1932 and consisted of 12 patrons who each sponsored Salvador Dali for one month of the year. In exchange, patrons receive a work of Dali’s during that same month. In the spirit of these forward-thinking patrons, The Dali’s Zodiac Membership Committee was formed in 1996. thedali.org/zodiacs
