November 16, 2019 by Post

Tampa, FL – The Franciscan Center, in partnership with the Straz Center for the Performing Arts, presents the Straz Music Discovery Series, a free music lecture series. Patel Conservatory Music Chair Dr. Lauren Baker Murray covers a wide range of topics concerning the inner workings of music and the musical world. She explores music written for the symphony orchestra, music from cultures around the world, and music from the early 20th century.

The next installment is The Acoustics of Sound: Tone Color and Sonic Painting on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Franciscan Center at 3010 N. Perry Avenue in Tampa, FL 33603. Next month, the topic for December will be The Symphony Orchestra, Its Roots, Ruin and Return, on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Murray is the music chair at the Patel Conservatory at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts. A native of Tampa, she enjoys an active career as a recitalist, chamber musician, and educator. She received the D.M.A in Oboe Performance from The University of North Texas, the M.M from Yale University, and a Bachelor of Music Education from Stetson University.  Murray has served on the faculties of the University of Northern Colorado, Murray State, Austin Peay, and the University of South Florida.

“We are so excited to launch our Straz Center partnership with this insightful music series,” Franciscan Center CEO Wendy Leigh states. “Dr. Murray is an engaging and informative speaker, as well as an accomplished musician.”
