Longboat Key author Michael Jordan has won a Silver Royal Palm Literary Award from the Florida Writers Association for his 2018 crime thriller The Company of Demons. Jordan accepted his award during the annual Florida Writers Conference held October 17-20 in Altamonte Springs, Florida. The Royal Palm award was given in the published thriller/suspense novel category and comes on the heels of Jordan’s book winning the 2019 National Indie Excellence Award in Crime Fiction, announced in July of this year. The Company of Demons also won the juried Florida Book Award for Popular Fiction in 2018, and has won several finalist awards as well.

In November, Jordan will speak at 2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 4, at Selby Public Library, 1331 1st Street, downtown Sarasota; and appear at 4 p.m., Friday, Nov. 15, at the Longboat Library, 555 Bay Isles Rd., Longboat Key, for a book signing, along with other area authors. The Company of Demons was published in 2018 by the Greenleaf Book Group.

The Company of Demons is inspired by the true story of the infamous “Torso Murderer,” — a savage serial killer who terrorized the community of Cleveland, Ohio years ago, murdering and dismembering at least a dozen people. Jordan, a former civil trial lawyer with a 40-year legal career in Ohio, was intrigued by the killings and by the fact that the killer was never caught. The Company of Demons raises the bone-chilling question: what if the long-dormant killer suddenly struck again?

Jordan sets his novel in current times in Cleveland where a recent murder with striking similarities to the Torso murders sends shockwaves through a community that still remembers the string of horrific slayings that went unsolved decades earlier. The murder hits close to home for prominent attorney John Coleman and sets him off on a journey into the dark history of the Torso murders, and leads to run-ins with ruthless gang members and shady cops, as he tries to find the killer of his friend.

The Company of Demons is available for purchase through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Nook, and Audible.
