Conservation Foundation is finalist for inaugural Impact 100 SRQ grant

October 18, 2019 by Post

Impact 100 SRQ, a group of local women philanthropists committed to high-impact strategic grant making, named Conservation Foundation of the Gulf Coast as one of five finalists for their inaugural grant cycle. If awarded, the two-year $114,000 grant will support the foundation’s Next Gen Conservation program, expanding the experiences for at-risk youth and a new Nature Explorers initiative open to the public for children of our community.

Next Gen Conservation expands on the foundation’s growing youth program to reach more kids, emphasizing discovery, nature-based activities and games, citizen-science, and providing experiences that do not take place before an electronic screen. Connecting kids to fun experiences in nature promotes self-led discovery, builds self-esteem, and expands their understanding and appreciation of the environment.

“Conservation Foundation is honored to be a finalist for this highly competitive grant. Our growth of Next Gen Conservation will get more kids outside, connecting to nature, and developing a love for the outdoors which has enormous benefits to their overall health and well-being,” notes Christine Johnson, president of Conservation Foundation. “Experiences like hiking, kayaking, and exploring the wonders of our natural world can give kids the “WOW!” moment that changes their life forever.”

Conservation Foundation is committed to ensuring that youth education and engagement is central to its mission. A growing body of research indicates that children experience reduced stress levels and improved social skills as a result of greater activity in nature. Benefits also include increased concentration, greater attention capacities, and higher academic performance. Learn more at www.conservationfoundation.com/youth
