ORLANDO, Fla. – When the nation’s largest nursing conference comes to town Oct. 10-12, Orlando will see more than just a $25 million economic impact. Each year, the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) National Magnet Conference® raises funds to support a nonprofit located within the conference’s host city and the American Nurses Foundation.
This year, the ANCC National Magnet Conference® seeks to raise approximately $50,000 to be split among Shepherd’s Hope here in Orlando and the American Nurses Foundation through a text-to-give campaign challenge. Approximately half of the total funds raised (that’s projected to be $25,000!) will go to Shepherd’s Hope.
Shepherd’s Hope is a faith-based organization that provides access to free health care to uninsured and underinsured Central Floridians. The organization operates five healthcare centers throughout Central Florida, which are typically open several evenings each week to serve those in need. Since first opening in 1997, thanks to the help of volunteers, including hundreds of RNs and APRNs, and our community hospital systems, Shepherd’s Hope has provided more than 237,000 free medical visits and patient services.
The American Nurses Foundation is the 501(c)(3) affiliate of the American Nurses Association and the ANCC. The Foundation’s leadership development programs, nurse research, scholarships and innovative projects are helping empower nurses and the nursing profession. During the Magnet Conference, donations to the Foundation will support the #EndNurseAbuse campaign. Workplace violence is an under-reported epidemic that has devastating results on the healthcare industry. The Foundation is working to identify strategies to address barriers to nurses and other health care workers reporting violence and abuse.
The text campaign is open to the general public through Oct. 31. ANCC invites the public to get involved by texting the following to “20222”.
· Text NURSE to donate $10
· Text THANKS to donate $25
· Text MAGNET to donate $50
Additionally, the American Nurses Foundation is seeking corporate partners interested in leading the challenge with a pledge of $10,000 to match every $1 donated up to that amount. Interested companies or individuals can send an email to givetonursing@ana.org.
