Spring Hill, Florida (September 17, 2019) – Oak Hill Hospital is proud to announce that its Transitional Year Program has received continued accreditation effective August 12, 2019, by the ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education). In a recent communication from the Senior Accreditation Administrator of the ACGME, program director Jeffrey Huang, MD, received the following notification: “In accordance with the ACGME’s next accreditation system and policy set forth in its Policies & Procedures Manual, all accredited programs are being reviewed annually by their relevant review committee. As of the August 12, 2019 meeting, the review committee for transitional year reviewed the program listed and took the action of awarding continued accreditation.”
The Transitional Year Program is a one-year post-graduate program for residents to have a variety of training experiences before further subspecialty training. Some of the fields requiring transitional year before beginning a specialty residency include anesthesiology, radiology, neurology, dermatology, and ophthalmology.
According to the Florida Department of Health, there is a critical statewide need for physicians. The expansion of Graduate Medical Education programs such as Oak Hill Hospital’s can help alleviate the shortage. This program benefits the local community. Studies show that many physicians practice where they have completed their residency.
