Duke Energy Center for the Arts – Mahaffey Theater Celebrates 54 Years

St. Petersburg Performing Arts Venue Announces 2019-2020 Season Entertainment, Eco-Friendly Amenities, New Website

St. Petersburg, FLA (September 11, 2019) – In its 54th year, The Duke Energy Center for the Arts – Mahaffey Theater, under the management of Big3 Entertainment continues to evolve at an all-time high with a world-class season lineup, a new website, eco-friendly charging stations, and another nomination for The Best of the Bay’s Best Performing Arts Center. Home to the Florida Orchestra, the world-class Mahaffey Theater hosts top-quality national and international artists and performances – pop, rock, comedy, theater, dance, classical and interactive engagements, and exhibitions.

With a commitment to diversity, the venue just announced the Fall lineup to include marquee acts such as Tony Bennett, Dane Cook, Cirque Dreams Holidaze, The Doobie Brothers, Elvis Costello, Incubus, Moscow’s Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker, and even more shows will be announced as the season progresses. Bill Edwards’ Big3 Entertainment begins their 9th year operating the Duke Energy Center for the Arts, Mahaffey Theater. Throughout the last couple of years, the Mahaffey Theater has seen an average annual increase in attendance, with a 250,000 peak last season. The entertainment company also promotes the shows at Al Lang Stadium such as Santana, Tedeschi Trucks, Bryan Adams, Collective Soul, Poison, Counting Crows, 3 Doors Down, Live, and Soul Asylum.

Founded as a 501(c)3 nonprofit in 2009, the Bill Edwards Foundation for the Arts is dedicated to the success and future of The Mahaffey Theater and to the notion that through diverse programming and patron membership support, performing arts should be enjoyed by all of St. Petersburg’s citizens. The Foundation recently appointed new President, Amy Miller, to lead the nonprofit in its efforts to continue providing world-class arts education programs, community outreach programs, and performances at the Duke Energy Center for the Arts – Mahaffey Theater for the entire community of St. Petersburg. This year, the Class Acts program supported by the Bill Edwards Foundation celebrates its 27th anniversary and has served over 600,000 students in the Tampa Bay Area.

Other improvements include a new website for The Duke Energy Center for Arts – Mahaffey Theater which rolled out this August including a fresh interface, and user-friendly navigation. www.mahaffeytheater.com. Eco-friendly charging stations are set to launch this fall in collaboration with Duke Energy.
