16 to Graduate from Cyber Florida/USF New Skills for a New Fight Program

September 1, 2019 by Post

The program rapidly trains veterans and others for new careers in cybersecurity

Cyber Florida invites members of the media to attend the graduation ceremony for New Skills for a New Fight, a cybersecurity rapid training program funded by JPMorgan Chase & Co. and hosted by Cyber Florida and the University of South Florida. New Skills for a New Fight is a unique nine-week rapid training program created by Cyber Florida to help prepare veterans and members of other underserved groups for new careers in the lucrative and rapidly growing cybersecurity industry. This is only the second iteration of this program, which represents a new avenue for mitigating the cybersecurity workforce shortage across Florida and the nation. Sixteen students will graduate on September 5, thirteen of whom are veterans.

Students in the New Skills for a New Fight program (back row) enjoy a mentoring session with representatives from JPMorgan Chase & Co. (front row), which has committed more than $350,000 in funding since the program’s inception in 2016.

In addition to students and their families, this event will host dignitaries from Cyber Florida, JPMorgan Chase & Co., and the University of South Florida—including new university president, Steven C. Currall—as well as representatives from several Tampa-based cybersecurity firms who participated as mentors.
