County Commissioners confirm Mylett as Public Utilities Department director

August 28, 2019 by Post

Sarasota County Public Utilities Director Mike Mylett.

SARASOTA COUNTY – The Sarasota County Board of County Commissioners (BCC) confirmed Mike Mylett as the new director of Sarasota County’s Public Utilities Department.  Mylett has been with Sarasota County Government since 2000, serving in a variety of roles within public utilities, including division manager of Water and Wastewater starting in 2018, until his appointment to interim director in April.  By ordinance, the BCC must confirm the public utilities director. Commissioner Charles Hines, who also serves as the BCC chairman, said Mylett has worked hard to earn the role since his appointment as interim director and has continued to recognize water quality as a top board priority.  “I appreciate his willingness to step up and take on this challenge,” Hines added. Mylett earned a bachelor’s degree in public health and administration from Indiana University and his master’s degree in business administration from Weber University.  According to Sarasota County Administrator Jonathan Lewis, Mylett’s experience and dedication to serving the community made him the ideal choice to lead the department.    “Mike brings the knowledge to make the necessary recommendations to our administration team and the county commission on how to improve our public utilities system,” Lewis said. “He was the logical choice to lead the department.” For Mylett, being selected is not only an honor, but an important opportunity to address water quality and utility infrastructure.  “I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue serving our community and leading the knowledgeable staff within all divisions of public utilities,” Mylett added. For more information, call the Sarasota County Contact Center at 941-861-5000 or visit scgov.net. Sarasota County prohibits discrimination in all services, programs or activities.  View the complete policy at scgov.net (keywords: ADA compliance)
