TAMPA – The Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC) will be participating in the 2019 Florida Energy and Climate Summit to be held Sept. 4-6 in Tampa, Fla. at the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay.
In addition to an educational booth, FGBC’s Dr. Jennifer Languell, President, Trifecta Construction Solutions will be on a panel on Energy Equity.
“The Summit brings together leaders in energy efficiency and development, sustainability, climate change, agriculture production, government, academic research, technology and finance from across the state and around the nation,” added FGBC Executive Director C.J. Davila, who is also attending the event.
In 2000 the non-profit FGBC brought together industry professionals from the construction, government, academic and research communities to create green standards tailored specifically to Florida. FGBC just surpassed 20,000 Florida Green certified projects.
Florida’s first state-level conference to address climate change since 2008 under then-Governor Charlie Crist, the summit is a multi-day conference hosted by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
Unlike other third-party certifications, FGBC “Florida Green” standards take a scientific approach and are developed with state-specific criteria. They address Florida’s hot-humid environment, distinctive topography, unique geology, resiliency and natural disasters.
The summit’s theme of “Powering Change” will provide opportunities to share ideas on diversifying Florida’s energy sources; promoting energy efficiency, renewable energy and alternative vehicle technology; spurring economic growth; and tackling climate change.
“As the energy sector moves towards a cleaner energy future, it may be easy for low income residents who already struggle with high energy costs to get left behind. This panel will explore the effects of an energy burden on utility customers and their community and how to ensure an economic balance,” noted Languell.
The summit agenda features panel discussions on unique relations in energy. From climate change and the agriculture sector, to the nexus of energy and water and how sea level rise affects coastal communities, to energy efficiency and renewable energy in low-income communities, summit attendees will learn about unique collaborations and initiatives in the state’s energy sector.
