AWS to Sponsor 4,000 Students for Cyber Safety Day Orlando

August 21, 2019 by Post

Tampa, FL – Amazon Web Services (AWS) joins Center for Cyber Safety and Education (Center) as District Sponsor for Cyber Safety Day Orlando providing 4,000 third grade students with award-winning internet safety resources.

“Children are getting online younger and younger and yet little is being done to teach them basic cyber safety practices.” Said Patrick Craven, director of the Center for Cyber Safety and Education. “Our research shows that 40% of elementary students have already spoken with a stranger online and thanks to community partners like AWS and Garfield we can start the conversation about how to be safe and secure just as children are getting connected.”

Founded by the Center, Cyber Safety Day Orlando is a one-day event for local schools and the entire community to join forces and ensure elementary children receive the tools needed to become a responsible digital citizen with Garfield’s Cyber Safety Adventures.

Introduced in the fall of 2016 by the Center and legendary cartoonist Jim Davis, Garfield’s Cyber Safety Adventures include cartoons, comic books, posters, trading cards, and stickers that show Garfield and friends tackling cyber safety issues such as privacy, the dangers of posting online, online etiquette, cyberbullying, and more.

Garfield’s Cyber Safety Adventures series received the national Learning® Magazine 2019 Teachers’ Choice Award for the classroom. Teachers chose the Garfield materials for their ability to engage elementary children and foster retention of core cyber safety lessons. Teachers’ Choice is the only awards program that is exclusively judged by teachers in the classroom.

Cyber Safety Day Orlando takes place Wednesday Oct. 30 to celebrate Cybersecurity Awareness Month in October and (ISC)² Security Congress taking place in Orlando.
