How the OTHER sales tax is being spent on schools

August 8, 2019 by Post

TAMPA (August 8, 2019)—While much attention has been focused on the transportation sales tax, whatever happened with the half-cent sales tax voters approved last year for Hillsborough County Public Schools?

Find out Aug. 16 when the Tampa Tiger Bay Club presents a panel discussion titled The OTHER Sales Tax. How much has been raised and how is it being spent? What are spending priorities for what comes next? What more is needed? Our panel explains and takes questions from our members.

The panel will feature Hillsborough School Board Chair Tamara Shamburger, School Superintendent Jeff Eakins, Stephanie Baxter-Jenkins, Executive Director, Hillsborough Classroom Teachers Association  and Melissa Erickson, executive director of the Alliance for Public Schools. The meeting takes place at the end of the first week of classes.

The luncheon meeting will be at the Chester Ferguson Law Center, 1610 N Tampa St. Lunch is served at 11:40 a.m. and the program begins promptly at noon. The cost is $25 for members and $35 for non-members.
