SARASOTA, FL – As part of its ongoing efforts to attract younger talent to the insurance industry, FCCI Insurance Group recently held a new event, “Career with a Purpose: A Day at FCCI Insurance Group.” FCCI’s summer interns had the opportunity to learn more about the industry; the goal was to inspire attendees to consider a career in commercial insurance.

Phyllis Roteman, president of The Loyalty Group Consulting, Inc. and well-regarded industry expert, presented “Insurance and You: How to join the revolution, make an impact and leverage your strengths.” The interactive session demonstrated why disruption, technology and rapid change make this a pivotal and advantageous time to be in the insurance industry. An exercise called “The Human Insurance Chain” demonstrated the wide variety of professional roles available when working for a commercial insurance carrier. Attendees also enjoyed presentations by professionals working in diverse arenas of insurance. The day closed with interns working in small groups on an ad campaign, with the goal of influencing someone to consider a career in the insurance industry. The hashtag of the day was unanimously #insuranceiscool.

“Our hope is that our interns left the event with an understanding that there is meaningful and fascinating work within the insurance industry,” said Kristi Hoskinson, FCCI Marketing and Community Relations Consultant. “There are a wide variety of skill sets and interests represented in our industry as well as emerging technology roles, with regards to predictive modeling, AI and drone operation. It is possible to love what you do each and every day in this business!”

Within the insurance industry, the massive exodus of retiring baby boomers and the struggle to attract younger workers are issues of critical importance. FCCI is committed to attracting talent to the commercial insurance industry through its intern program, including a budding “exchange program” at FCCI and its partner agencies, as well as through partnerships with CareerEdge Funders Collaborative and CareerSource Suncoast, and building relationships with the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee and State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota, which offer insurance-related programs and training.
