A CPR and AED certified heart survivor, Megan Washington was crowned Ms. Florida United States 2019. As Ms. Florida United States, Megan will continue her work of promoting heart health by educating and empowering women to not be a statistic when 1 in 3 women will die of heart disease or stroke in their lifetime—that’s more than all forms of cancer combined.
Orlando, FL (July 8, 2019)—It’s with great joy that The Mrs. United States National Pageant, Inc. announces Megan Washington as Ms. Florida United States 2019. Megan holds a Master of Arts degree in Mass Communication from the University of Florida and looks forward to passing her knowledge of social media marketing to undergraduate students beginning in the fall at a state college in the central Florida region. Megan believes one of her strengths as a titleholder is her story telling through content she creates—some of which has even been featured on the channels of various American Heart Association chapters across the sunshine state. Megan is a warrior that has championed heart health for the past decade and spends a great deal of time supporting and encouraging survivors, sharing her own story, and making sure families have the resources they need. Megan courageously blogs about her own experiences as a heart patient to let others know they are not alone and provides exercise tips where it is just about, “taking the first step.” Megan has been drawn to participating in The Mrs. United States National Pageant, Inc. system since 2015 for the organization’s emphasis on community service, family and the platform that it allowed her to have to try to save lives.
“I remember laying in the hospital bed wondering if that was it for me and being unsatisfied because I wanted to accomplish so much in my life. I don’t want anyone else to have that experience and I’ve tried my hardest for over the past decade to make sure I am reaching as many people as possible with my story—with being vulnerable about what a heart problem does to you not just physically but mentally—and supporting those fighting for their lives. Nobody has to fight alone and I want to provide them with as much information as possible. Heart disease and stroke are 80% preventable yet 1 in 3 will die from it. We have a lot of work to do to change that.”
Megan will compete in Las Vegas, Nevada from July 30th through August 2nd for the coveted Ms. United States title.
