WalletHub joins Zillow in ranking Tampa as the #1 city for first-time homebuyers. WalletHub compared 300 cities of varying sizes across 27 key indicators of market attractiveness, affordability and quality of life.
Tampa ranked particularly well in the market attractiveness and quality of life categories, which includes such data points as housing-market health, media home price appreciation and homeownership rate for millennials for the former category and recreation friendliness, job market and quality of school system for the latter category.
“Our diverse housing options and affordability are not only attracting new residents to the Tampa Bay area but are also garnering attention from CEOs across the country as skyrocket housing costs plague most major markets,” said Craig Richard, President and CEO of the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation. “CEOs are increasingly concerned about housing options for their employees, so if we have a lower cost of living and affordable, competitive housing, it gives us a leg up when attracting talent and companies from other markets.”
