Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point Announces that Its Neuroscience Center Has Performed over 100 Successful Acute Neuro-endovascular Stroke Intervention Cases

July 12, 2019 by Post

Hudson, Florida (July 12, 2019) – One year ago, Bayonet Point Hospital announced the installation of a sophisticated x-ray imaging system for its Neuroscience Center which allows physicians to view extremely detailed, real-time images of a patient’s head, neck and spine during stroke and other neuro-endovascular procedures that require exact precision. For people suffering from an ischemic stroke or brain aneurism every second counts. The faster life-saving interventions can be performed on a patient, the greater the chances of survival and optimal recovery.

Patients at the Neuroscience Center receive treatment for a variety of medical conditions including ischemic stroke, brain aneurism, and neuro vascular abnormalities. Bayonet Point is pleased to announce that it has successfully completed its 100th Neuro-endovascular Stroke intervention.

“Seeing the anatomy very clearly while guiding catheters, stents, and other medical devices in the brain to areas needing treatment has been critical to the success of these procedures,” said Alison Fowler, Director of Imaging and Non-Invasive Cardiac Services.  “We are proud of the excellent care coordination, from patient arrival, to diagnosis and treatment that our team is providing, including thrombectomies and aneurism coilings, with accuracy and confidence,” she added.

As the first and only Comprehensive Stroke Center and Level II Trauma Center in the area, Bayonet Point’s Neuroscience Center supports 24/7 emergency care for stroke patients, with the latest technology and a highly trained and compassionate staff.  Faster stroke diagnosis and treatment saves brain tissue, improving outcomes and allowing patients the opportunity to return to their normal routines.

“This is a monumental achievement,” said Dr. John C. Brunson, Jr., interventional neuroradiology/endovascular neurosurgeon. “We recently learned that our research article, Improved TICI Grades in Patients with ACUTE LVO Using Mechanical Thrombectomy Dual Aspiration Technique, was accepted for presentation at the next meeting of the Society of Neuro-Interventional Surgery’s (SNIS) and for publication in the Journal of Neuro-Interventional Surgery (JNIS), a national and internationally renowned and respected peer review journal.”

Dr. Brunson went on to thank his staff, the radiology department, the Neuroscience Center, Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, hospitalists, INR physicians, HCA Healthcare, Envision, hospital administration and Bayonet Point staff. “We could not have accomplished this for our patients and our community without the support of this great team of medical professionals,” said Dr. Brunson.
