Tax Collector Mike Fasano’s five offices will be collecting donations to help kids whose families may not be able to afford the back-to-school supplies required of all students. Select schools in each community will receive backpacks with the supplies soon after the promotional campaign ends. Additionally, cash donations will be made to the school’s ABC (Assist, Believe & Care) Program to help classroom teachers purchase the supplies they need to meet the needs of their students.
“Each year students are expected to purchase an ever growing list of supplies to bring with them on the first day of class,” states Tax Collector Mike Fasano. “Gone are the days when a notebook, a pencil and some book covers, often made out of old shopping bags, were what most kids needed. Now, in addition to all those things, students need to buy backpacks, earbuds, USB drives and a variety of pens, pencils, tape, calculators and other items. There are far too many families who struggle to provide for the basic needs of their children, let alone have the funds to purchase potentially expensive supplies. Through this promotional campaign I am hopeful that our efforts will make the burden lighter for as many families and students as possible.”
Cash donations are preferred and can be made at any of the five tax collector locations in Pasco County.
