SARASOTA, Fla. (June 27, 2019) – Young adults on the verge of choosing a career will have the opportunity to learn more about the insurance industry during “Career with a Purpose: A Day at FCCI Insurance Group.” The goal of the event, which will take place on Friday, July 12, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at FCCI’s headquarters, 6300 University Parkway, Sarasota, Florida, 34240, is to inspire young people to consider a career in commercial insurance. This will be the inaugural year of FCCI’s Career with a Purpose Day.
Phyllis Roteman, president of The Loyalty Group Consulting, Inc., and well-regarded industry expert, will present “Insurance and You: How to join the revolution, make an impact and leverage your strengths.” This interactive session will demonstrate why disruption, technology and rapid change make this a pivotal and advantageous time to be in the insurance industry. Attendees will also enjoy presentations by professionals working in the diverse arenas of insurance. In addition, the interns will be asked to collaborate in developing an ad for actual publication.
“Our hope is that our interns will leave the event with an understanding that there is meaningful and fascinating work within the insurance industry. The opportunities are endless,” said Kristi Hoskinson, FCCI Marketing and Community Relations Consultant. “There are a wide variety of skill sets and interests represented in our industry – from underwriters, claim adjusters, actuaries to human resources, communications and marketing. There are also emerging technology roles, with regards to predictive modeling, AI and drone operation. It is possible to love what you do each and every day in this business!”
FCCI’s summer intern program became very popular three years ago, as hiring trends began to increase dramatically due to FCCI’s growth and expansion as well as the retirements of long-tenured teammates. “Over the years, our summer interns have become our best industry ambassadors,” said Ann Driscoll, FCCI Vice President of Human Resources. “They understand that working in insurance is a great career choice for many reasons with competitive compensation, personal growth and job stability being just a few.”
Within the insurance industry, the retiring population has been, and is forecasted to be, an issue of critical importance in the coming years. While there is very low attrition in the industry and the unemployment rate is well below the national average, companies are struggling to attract younger workers. By 2025, 70% of FCCI’s workforce will be over the age of 50.
FCCI is committed to attracting talent to the commercial insurance industry through its intern program, including a budding “exchange program” at FCCI and its partner agencies, as well as through a partnership with CareerEdge Funders Collaborative to create a marketing plan for promoting careers in the industry, and developing a close relationship with the University of South Florida – Sarasota-Manatee, which now offers a Risk Management and Insurance program.
