June 17, 2019 – Clearwater, FL. McCormick Stevenson Corporation (MCCST) announces the receipt of the Option Phase for the DARPA-sponsored Gun-launched Integrated Guidance Navigation and Control (GNC) Direct to Phase II Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) project, labeled “iCAS“. The iCAS consists of a Guidance Electronics Unit (GEU) and Control Actuation System (CAS) highly integrated into a Guidance Navigation and Control (GNC) for medium caliber guided ammunition.
The Option funds the Control Actuation Subsystem (CAS) build and Hi-g testing of the integrated GNC prototype in the second quarter of 2020. iCAS develops this critical component for various precision-guided gun-launched DoD munitions currently in development including DARPA’s own MAD-FIRES (Multi-Azimuth Defense Fast Intercept Round Engagement System). These next generation munitions must be capable of defensively countering fast-moving, agile incoming threats by adjusting (guiding) their flight path while rapidly closing on and neutralizing the threat.
“We are pleased with DARPA’s continued confidence in our team’s ability to solve the technology challenges for state-of-the-art Hi-g-capable GNC through the award of the Option Phase,” remarked MCCST President Noel McCormick. “We look forward to demonstrating success through integration and Hi-g testing.”
MCCST previously received a Purple Contractor Performance Assessment Rating (CPAR) from DARPA for performance on the iCAS program. For more information, contact Mr. McCormick at noel.mccormick@mccst.com.
