SARASOTA, FL – Throughout the month of May, Military Cut Lawn Care Service held a donation drive benefiting Goodwill Manasota. All month, the company picked up gently-used items that its clients in the Sarasota-Manatee area no longer wanted or needed, and transported them to Goodwill, where they are now being sold in retail stores throughout the area. Proceeds are supporting Goodwill’s mission of changing lives through the power of work.
Items collected included clothing, shoes, jewelry, functioning computers, household items and decor, kitchenware, books and more. The donations for the month totaled 231 pounds.
Military Cut, which serves Sarasota County and Lakewood Ranch, is known for its commitment to employing veterans. The company has partnered previously with Goodwill, assisting with mock interviews for employment readiness classes for veterans, as well as hiring several veterans who have received services through the Veterans Services Program.
“This is a wonderful example of a local business showcasing great corporate social responsibility. We are always thrilled to partner with companies and other organizations that share our commitment to giving a hand up, rather than a handout,” said Gray Videnka, vice president of the Goodwill Manasota Foundation. “We are grateful to Military Cut for helping us to give chances – not charity – to very deserving people in our community.”
“Military Cut is particularly proud of the relationship it has developed with Goodwill’s Veterans Services Program,” said Mark Page, Military Cut’s director of operations. “We have been pleased to provide employment to many of the veterans that are working with these service programs. Given the many customers we have throughout Sarasota and Manatee counties, it was a natural for us to invest our time and effort in collecting items for Goodwill’s May donation drive.”
