“We are grateful to have a board of directors so committed to providing strong and informed leadership,” said Marjorie Broughton, Meals on Wheels of Sarasota executive director. “They bring a wealth of experience to a board that understands the critical need for healthy, prepared meals delivered directly to residents who may otherwise go without.”
Their leadership will guide the continued growth of the organization which has been serving residents of Sarasota for more than 47 years, without federal funding. This growth includes the latest implementation of a new business model which provides seven healthy, prepared meals in six day of delivery. The organization is also embarking on increasing its meal and delivery capacity by obtaining a new satellite station, identifying additional residents in need, and enlisting more volunteers. This increase will help Meals On Wheels of Sarasota deliver to more people who live east of I75 and ensure that an estimated additional 250 residents who struggle with shopping and cooking for themselves or for their children and families, will have access to heart healthy meals.
