[Sarasota, FL]: Rocket Phonics Inc. today announced Litha Martinez is finally getting her GED. This milestone is a major accomplishment for Martinez, a mom of four with spina bifida who has never held a job and who had failed the GED in seven previous attempts.
“Rocket Phonics’ mission is is two books of games and stories designed for preschool to third grade,” says Stephen Guffanti MD, CEO of Rocket Phonics Inc. “We were using it with Litha’s son and because it is a series of games, we brought Litha in to play with her son. She noticed playing the games improved her GED score as well as her son’s reading—he is now reading at
grade level. So, she asked us if we would take her through the entire Rocket Phonics course.
She finished in February and started working on her math skills. This May she passed her GED in time for graduation.”
New York Teacher of the Year John Taylor Gatto said of Rocket Phonics, “Follow these simple exercises and you will watch a miracle unfold before your eyes.” Dr. Guffanti said, That’s exactly what happened with Litha.
This news comes in the wake of many recent initiatives and accomplishments of the company, including:
• Rocket Phonics Inc. joined Trinity Multicultural Life Church to enter Suncoast’s
Campaign for Grade Level Reading Summer Reading Challenge starting June 3, 2019.
The challenge is sponsored by school districts in several local counties.
• Finished a successful crowdfunding campaign to start digitizing its program.
• Entered Sarasota’s 2019 Social Entrepreneur Conference.
Dr. Guffanti said, “We are excited to announce that starting June 3 volunteers will use Rocket Phonics kits to teach reading for ten weeks to a group of low-income-low-literacy students from the Newtown area in Sarasota. Based on past experience with Rocket Phonics, we expect the
kids who attend regularly to gain two years in two months.”
Rocket Phonics is working with Bishop and Theresa Perkins, who head Trinity Multicultural Life Church. They provide a summer program each year for the area kids, and an after-school program as well.
About Rocket Phonics Inc, Dr. Guffanti said, “We incorporated in 2018 to digitize the Rocket Phonics method and bring all children to grade level reading. We believe that children are learning machines if you will just give them a program designed to fuel their imagination, feed their curiosity and inspire their greatness. We design products to do just that.”
Interested residents can help in several ways. Dr. Guffanti said, “You can donate early reader books, donate funds for purchasing books, and volunteer.”
