LARGO, Fla. – The Bay Area Professional Writers Guild Inc. is inviting teens, college students and those interested in trying writing as a career to its “The Write Stuff: Boot Camp 101” workshop.
“Boot Camp 101” is designed to introduce people to careers in writing. It will take place June 11 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and explain how to get started, where to find contacts for a career in writing and perspectives from an expert on career counseling. Steve Simon, author of RELAUNCH! Stagnation, Change and Renewal in Mid-Career and Beyond and Carol Perry, author of the Witch City Mysteries series and a popular magazine writer, will be the featured speakers of the workshop held at Creative Pinellas on 12211 Walsingham Road in Largo, Fla. The workshop is open to the public.
Simon will guide participants on strategies that will help them land writing jobs while Perry will discuss how to find those writing job by writing query letters and building relationships with editors. Members from BAPWG will be on hand to greet participants, answer questions, sell books and provide resources. Door prizes and hand-outs will be available. Light refreshments will be served.
“We have heard many times that people in Tampa Bay want to learn how to start writing,” said Louise Harris, vice president of BAPWG. “Boot Camp 101 is our attempt to help them get started. We also want to reach out to young people with this workshop, so they can begin a career in writing.”
