SARASOTA, Fla. (May 3, 2019) – The Perlman Music Program/Suncoast announces the seventh annual Super Strings program, offering young Florida string players, ages 8-18, the unique opportunity to play side-by-side with The Perlman Music Program (PMP) String Orchestra under the baton of internationally acclaimed violinist and conductor Itzhak Perlman. Students who play violin, viola, cello and bass are encouraged to audition. This year’s piece is the 1st movement of Felix Mendelssohn’s String Sinfonia No. 2 in D Major.
Super Strings is presented as part of a public orchestra rehearsal during The Perlman Music Program Sarasota Winter Residency, taking place December 19, 2019 through January 4, 2020 on the campus of USF Sarasota-Manatee in Sarasota, Fla. Last year 52 string students from 15 Florida counties participated. A preparatory workshop and rehearsals led by local music faculty will be held in advance of the performance to help support participating musicians. Super Strings promotes the interaction of local young musicians with international students of The Perlman Music Program and world-class faculty.
The preparatory workshop on October 26 and the Dress Rehearsal and Performance on December 28 will take place at USF Sarasota-Manatee, 8350 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, FL.
Students who wish to apply must fill out an online application and submit videos of their audition.

The 17-day PMP Sarasota Winter Residency provides valuable mentoring and performance opportunities for approximately 35 young international string musicians, ages 12-20+, and offers 20+ free and low-cost musical events on the campus of USF Sarasota-Manatee. The 2019-2020 PMP Sarasota Winter Residency will take place December 19, 2019 – January 4, 2020. The Celebration Concert, held on January 4, 2020 at the Sarasota Opera House, is the culmination of the Winter Residency, featuring the PMP Chorus, led by Chorus Master Patrick Romano and the PMP Orchestra, conducted under the baton of Itzhak Perlman.
