TAMPA, FL. (May 1, 2019) – Honoring a local artist is the motivation behind producing “Conversations in Bed” beginning May 2 through May 19 at Powerstories Theatre.Executive Director, Fran Powers says “Something NEW this year is our commitment to local playwrights. Our season of shows is determined by our Artistic Committee comprised of members of the community. This year, it was decided to produce one show a year by a local artist. The first play selected was Conversations in Bed by Gretchen Suarez- Pena. This show does not fall into the category of a true story, but it meets our mission of supporting women playwrights. I am proud to introduce Gretchen Suarez-Pena. “
Gretchen Suarez-Pena is a long-time playwright and lover of the theatre. Her most recent success was winning overall best full length play at the 2018 Tampa Bay Theatre Festival for her show Conversations in the Car. She also won first prize for her piece Dry Spell at the 30 by Ninety Theatre in Mandeville, Louisiana in their Night of One Acts Competition. Other shows include Conversations in Bed, Martha and Mary, C’est la Vie, Trafficked, and Melina: A steampunk musical tragedy.
