Moe’s donates $42,000 to help provide devices to children undergoing cancer treatment in Tampa Bay
Tampa, Fla. – (May 1, 2019) – Tampa Bay Moe’s Southwest Grill locations announced today that the Apple A Day Foundation has received a $42,000 donation resulting from a fundraising effort that took place throughout the month of April. The gift is the largest amount that Apple A Day’s Tampa chapter has received from a single donor since opening its doors in 2010.
A locally founded nonprofit organization, Apple A Day provides devices, such as tablets and smartphones, to children undergoing cancer treatment, at no cost to them or their families. Since its inception, Apple A Day has presented more than 500 iPads/devices to children fighting cancer. Today’s contribution will help facilitate a new initiative being launched in partnership with other pediatric cancer organizations by providing 105 local children with a new iPad.
“We are so appreciative for the generous support of Moe’s Southwest Grill, its local owners and the Tampa Bay Community who came out during the month of April to help support our organization,” said Apple A Day Executive Director Phoebe Kushner. “The team at Moe’s is truly passionate about giving back, and went above and beyond to ensure that we continue our mission to provide distraction, connection and, most importantly, hope and joy to children in our community.”
“Through our partnership with Apple A Day, we’ve been able to personally experience the tangible and intangible impact that a device can have on a child battling cancer,” explains Moe’s Southwest Grill Franchise owner, Austin Prince. “The work that Apple A Day is doing makes an incredible difference in the lives of children and their families in Tampa Bay every day, and we are grateful for the opportunity to play a role in that impact.”
Every Wednesday, from April 3 to April 24, the Tampa Bay franchise cooperative, which includes 24 locations of the fast-casual southwestern restaurant, donated 25 percent of net in-store sales to the Apple A Day foundation. The donation was marked with a check presentation aired during a broadcast on 102.5 WHPT FM’s Drew Garabo Live and included representatives from Tampa Bay Moe’s Southwest Grill, Apple A Day leadership, as well as radio personalities, Drew Garabo, Seth Kushner, and John Senning.
