TAMPA, Florida, May 1, 2019 – Lincoln Memorial University-Caylor School of Nursing (LMU-CSON) was notified in a letter dated April 26, 2019 that it has been granted accreditation by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Inc. (ACEN) for its Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) programs offered at LMU’s extended learning site in Tampa, Florida, effective December 2017. The ACEN is recognized as an accrediting body for all types of nursing education by the United States Department of Education and Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
“This is a significant achievement for the Caylor School of Nursing, and affirms our commitment to quality nursing education,” said Vice President of Extended Sites and LMU-CSON Dean Dr. Mary Anne Modrcin. “I am proud of the faculty and staff who have worked hard to meet and exceed quality metrics to provide the training and education needed for students to become qualified nurses capable of succeeding in the 21st century health care environment.”
ACEN accreditation indicates that a nursing program has clear and appropriate educational objectives and is working to achieve them. There are many benefits for students who attend an ACEN accredited program. According to the ACEN website, graduates of ACEN accredited programs outperform other graduates on licensure and advanced certification examinations. Employers will often seek out graduates from accredited institutions like LMU, as it gives them confidence that they are hiring a competent nurse.
LMU-CSON in partnership with AdventHealth (formerly known as Florida Hospital) began offering an accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program in fall 2017, and an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) in the spring of 2018. Though LMU is new to the Tampa area, the university was founded in 1897 in Harrogate, Tennessee, and the Caylor School of Nursing offered its first nursing degree – the ASN – in 1974.
This is the just one of the latest accolades for the Tampa nursing programs. The members of its inaugural BSN class, which graduated in December 2018, achieved a first-attempt pass rate of 100% on the NCLEX-RN, the national licensure exam. LMU is set to graduate its inaugural class from the ASN program at the Tampa extended learning site on May 8.
“The Caylor School of Nursing is helping the university meet its mission of providing service to humanity through the training of qualified nurses who will attend to the health and wellness needs of the communities in which they serve,” said LMU President Clayton Hess.
Nursing is the largest undergraduate major at LMU, and the Caylor School of Nursing prides itself on educating highly skilled, compassionate nurses that hospitals want to employ. LMU graduates go on to nursing careers in a variety of settings, from major medical centers to small community hospitals.
LMU offers a variety of degree options for students in the Tampa area to meet their career goals, including the ASN and BSN degree programs. LMU also offers online programs through its main campus in Harrogate, Tennessee, including an RN-BSN, a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with a concentration in nursing administration, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). LMU is taking applications now for the BSN and ASN programs. The next cohort for the BSN program will begin in August 2019, and the next cohort for the ASN program will begin in January 2020.
