SARASOTA, Fla. — J.E. Charlotte Construction Corp., a Venice-based commercial construction company, recently broke ground on an 1,800-square-foot state-of-the-art educational seminar facility for Dr. John Russo, a private practice periodontist at Russo Periodontics and director of Russo Seminars.
Now underway, the ground-up construction project will include classroom-style seating for more than 35 clinicians seeking to continue their education through lectures and hands-on courses, as well as the ability to view live GPS-guided surgeries via audio and video feeds.
“I am excited to get started on this project and provide an opportunity for dental professionals to further their knowledge and collaborate using all upgraded information technology,” said Dr. Russo, who has been in practice for 26 years. “Our team will work with other partners in education and offer different dental courses and bring these dynamic live surgeries to the Sarasota-Manatee area.”
A nationally recognized expert in dental implants and bone grafting, he lectures across the U.S. Dr. Russo diagnoses and treats gum disease, performs periodontal plastic surgery procedures and places dental implants for patients. Dr. Russo works closely with many excellent restorative dentists in the area to give patients the benefit of the combined expertise of a specialist and a restorative dentist.
The new education building will also act as the new home of the Sarasota Dental Hygiene Study Club, as well as the Silver King Study Club, which is a group of general dentists and specialists who meet once a month for continuing education. Dr. Russo is director of both study clubs. This unique facility will live stream dental procedures from the Russo Periodontics dental office to the education building, allowing the audience to view procedures performed on patients in real time.
Dr. Russo is a clinical assistant professor of periodontics at the Medical University of South Carolina. Since 2001, Dr. Russo has been teaching the Hands-On Cadaver Course for Bone and Soft Tissue Grafting. The course provides clinicians the opportunity to perform surgical procedures on models and cadaver specimen under the supervision of faculty. The curriculum includes in-depth lectures, over-the-shoulder demonstrations and a hands-on workshop on advanced bone grafting for implant placement.
In August 2019, the commercial construction team will also perform a complete renovation of Dr. Russo’s 3,110-square-foot office, which opened in 2000. The office makeover will include a surgical suite with the latest state-of-the-art equipment and audio-visual technology streamed to the educational center, as well as interior aesthetic updates, such as new flooring, wall coverings, cabinetry, electrical, plumbing and air conditioning system improvements.
J.E. Charlotte Construction will also supervise the site work, pave the parking lot with additional spaces, install new lighting and improve the storm drainage. Greg K. Wall will act as the architect on the projects, which are located at 1704 Bay Road in Sarasota.
The educational seminar facility is slated for completion in summer 2019, and the office revamp is scheduled to wrap up in fall 2019.
