SARASOTA, Fla. (April 25, 2019) — Parents who are looking for a fun and educational reason to bring the kids out to the 37th Annual Suncoast Boat Show can check out the free youth fishing clinic where up to 200 children will walk away with a new rod and reel. The free-for-youth clinics will be held Saturday April 27 at noon and 2 p.m.; and Sunday April 28 at 1 and 3 p.m. Registration is not required and free rods and reels are first come-first served up to 50 per clinic.
The clinic is provided by the not-for-profit Hook the Future, whose founder travels the country teaching children how to fish in order to promote the value of parents spending quality time with their children.
Capt. Don Dingman, who has been on a mission to strengthen family ties through fishing after losing his son in 2004, will lead four clinics during the show’s weekend run.
He starts his clinics by discussing the types of species kids might want to catch. Then he educates them about water columns, what types of bait to use, and “if they have money to buy two color lures, what color they should buy.”
Dingman is a renown fishing expert: he grew up on the water and has a tv show called Hook the Future that features kids from all over the world as they join him on fishing expeditions. The show is seen by more than 100 million households across the country.
During each clinic, up to 50 children will receive a free rod and reel; Dingman will also hold a kids’ only raffle to give away fishing and marine products.
“I want parents to see that fishing is a great way to spend time with your kids and enjoy each other’s company,” Dingman said. “The Boat Show is a great way to spend a weekend together…and parents might even learn a thing or two at the clinic.”
The Suncoast Boat Show, the premier boat show along the Gulf Coast, will feature more than 400 power boats on display as well as all types of marine gear.
In addition to the youth fishing clinics, there will also be a large selection of exhibits at this year’s show, fun and educational activities, and marine seminars.
The show runs April 26 – 28, 2019. Tickets are $15 for adults; children 15 and under are free. Marina Jack is located at 2 Marina Plaza, Sarasota, FL 34236.
