Summit will provide information to help employers fill tech staffing needs
TAMPA – Tampa !p (Innovation Partnership) will bring industry leaders, career seekers, and community organizations together at Crossover Church (1235 E. Fowler Avenue, Tampa, FL 33612) on May 2, 2019 from 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. to share details about finding and hiring qualified tech workers in a summit called How to Hire Tech Tech Talent in Tampa Bay. The event is free and includes coffee and light breakfast.
Keeping up with the latest tech innovations and employing the staff needed to utilize new technology and remain competitive is challenging for employers. Competition to recruit and hire and costly training make it difficult to fill essential roles. Then, there is the challenge of employee retention.
“If we don’t capitalize on the local tech talent we have, they’ll go somewhere else to find opportunities and the businesses who need them might follow. We have the tech talent here. We have innovative companies and start-up businesses here who need that talent. We have to make sure the pieces fit together and help them connect. Summits like this and programs like TechHire do that and help our innovation district thrive,” said Tampa !p Chief Potential Officer, Mark Sharpe.
The morning’s agenda will be fast-paced and include several speakers and topics beginning with a welcome from Hillsborough County District 1 Commissioner and CareerSource Tampa Bay vice chair, Sandra Murman. Speakers and topics on the agenda include a tech hiring crash course with owner of Full Stack Talent, Michael Sunderland; LinkedIn expert, Nile Nickel; opportunities for paid staff-training and hiring available to employers through the TechHire grant; details about the University of South Florida online Java program; St. Petersburg College’s tech apprenticeship program; and details about tech training available from Hillsborough Community College.
Highlights from last year’s How to Hire Tech event can be viewed at the Tampa !pYoutube channel. Registration for the event is free through Event Brite and open as long as space is available.
